Toytropolis elevator with Grinch theme at the Bon March, Christmas 1971 Christmas 1970 and 1971 saw not just the annual tradition of children meeting Santa Claus at the Bon March but also the introduction of a new Christmas character the Grinch. The addition was a great way for the Bon to tie in Dr. Seuss merchandise to Christmas festivities, celebrate a visit from the author himself, and promote its children's department. Along with meeting the Grinch in person, children and families could also take a tour through the Grinch's cave, a place inhabited by life-size Dr. Seuss characters.
