MOHAI at Lake Union Park

On December 29, 2012, MOHAI will open the doors to a stunning new regional history museum at the Naval Reserve Building (Armory) in Lake Union Park, a dramatic location that will allow MOHAI to serve far greater audiences, assume a central place in the region’s civic landscape, and engage thousands of visitors and students in the power of history to shape our lives today.

A History Museum for the 21st Century

The new MOHAI re-imagines the idea of a history museum, creating a dynamic institution that fosters dialogue, civic literacy, and innovative thinking. Located at the heart of the city, MOHAI will have a wide cultural reach that will include: expanded education programming for thousands of Puget Sound area students; a shared gallery built in collaboration with regional community and cultural groups; an expanded core exhibit giving a robust and panoramic view of our city’s history; and new gallery space dedicated to attracting large-scale touring exhibits from around the country.

MOHAI has grown to become the largest private heritage organization in the State of Washington, attracting more than 60,000 visitors annually from the Northwest and beyond, including thousands of school children. In our new home, we expect to grow our attendance to an estimated 100,000 visitors annually.

Reserve Your Place in History Today

Now is your opportunity to be a part of MOHAI’s new home. With your donation of $1,000 (or more), you join MOHAI’s Community Campaign and help to make this remarkable new museum a reality. To commemorate your participation, you will have the opportunity to place your name on a tile located on the third floor northeast balcony of the beautifully restored Armory. This is the perfect opportunity to be a permanent part of the new MOHAI and to recognize your family or loved ones as part of Seattle’s history. There is limited space; to ensure your place, make your gift today.
